The Story Behind the Artwork

Of the ten pieces in Through Their Eyes, this is the one built to hold space for something other than loss. The chimpanzee here isn’t rendered as a symbol of crisis — closer to a study in stillness, alert but unthreatened, positioned within a landscape that has clearly been altered without being erased entirely. That distinction matters. Pressure and possibility aren’t opposites in this piece; they sit in the same frame, because that’s closer to the actual, unresolved state of most remaining habitat than a clean story in either direction would be. The title isn’t a promise. It’s a deliberate counterweight to the rest of the collection — an acknowledgement that the outcome for animals like this one is still being decided, not already written. The chimpanzee’s expression carries something closer to attentiveness than despair: an animal watching a changing world it hasn’t yet been pushed entirely out of.

5% of every sale from the Through Their Eyes collection supports wildlife conservation — set aside and donated annually at year end.
