Plastic Tide — Turtle

The Story Behind the Artwork

Sea turtles have been navigating open ocean for longer than most of the world’s coastlines have looked the way they do now — reading currents, magnetic fields, migratory routes memorised by instinct. None of that instinct accounts for what now moves through the same water. This piece doesn’t dramatise the point with imagery of visible waste; it lets the contradiction sit quietly instead — an animal perfectly adapted to an ocean that is no longer quite what it adapted to. The turtle’s expression asks for no rescue and offers no verdict. It simply continues, the way these animals have continued for longer than most species alive today, through a change it has no way of understanding as a choice someone else made. The title carries the weight instead of the image having to: not a wave, not a storm — a tide, slow and structural and already arrived.

5% of every sale from the Through Their Eyes collection supports wildlife conservation — set aside and donated annually at year end.
