The Story Behind the Artwork

Most of the pieces in Through Their Eyes focus on a specific place, a specific pressure, a specific kind of loss. This one steps back. The lion here isn’t set against deforestation or fire or fencing — it’s set against the viewer, in a gaze direct enough to function less like wildlife photography and more like a mirror. What you’re looking at, this piece suggests, is looking back, and the landscape either animal ends up with depends less on the lion than on the species doing the looking. That’s a heavier idea to end a collection on than a single environmental threat, and it’s deliberate. Ten pieces, ten pressures, and then one that refuses to name a specific one — because the real subject was never really any single issue. It was always the relationship, and what we choose to do with the part of it that’s still undecided.

5% of every sale from the Through Their Eyes collection supports wildlife conservation — set aside and donated annually at year end.
